A Group Conference is a type of conference during which the audio and video from each participant is available for all other participants. In each Group Conference, one person is usually considered to be the host, and will be shown in the Address Book list with a yellow star-shaped indicator:
. While in a conference, the host may invite other users by double-clicking on their names in the Address Book.
To create a new group conference directly from within the application.
Click on the Group Conference button
to the right side of the Address Bar. Click on the New button, and a form will pop up (with Group conference preselected), prompting you to choose a Conference name and a Conference password, which you have to confirm by typing it in a second time. The conference will start immediately after you click on the Create button.
Click on the Group Conference button
. A new window will pop up prompting for the Conference name and Conference password. Fill out the fields with the required information and click the Join button.
If one of the entries in your Address Book is marked with the yellow star-shaped indicator
, this means that that person is currently hosting a group conference. You may ask the host for permission to join the conference in progress by double-clicking on the marked entry in your application's address book.
While in a conference, you will see a grid with video windows for all conference participants. For every new user joining the conference, a new video window is shown, and a notification message is displayed in the Chat window. For added convenience, each participant's name is displayed above their video screen.
An individual Audio/Video Control Toolbar is presented for each participant below each video screen. That allows manual adjustment of audio volume for each participant and provides the ability to stop or restart receiving the audio/video stream from each participant.
In a Group Conference, large amounts of data need to be transmitted through the network channel. For each additional participant, the data stream grows even more. If network bandwidth is constrained, you may want to stop the video stream for some users to allow better video throughput for another user.
Clicking the camera icon
below a user's video screen will turn off the video stream for that user, and leave a still image.
Clicking the speaker icon
below a user's picture will mute audio for that user.
You can control the audio volume for each user independently. Move the volume slider below a user's picture to adjust audio volume for that user.
Click on the icon
to send a private massage to the participant.
While in a conference, you may click the Maximize/Minimize icon
, at the bottom-right corner of each video screen, to display that user's video in a separate window. In that case, you will see that user's still picture in the corresponding main application window.
Right-click on the window, and pick the video window size from the drop-down menu. The following sizes are available:
Close the separate window to return the user's video back into the main grid of video windows.
To leave a conference, click on the Disconnect button
