 What is ZoomCall?

ZoomCall is a service that delivers premium business-quality Video conferencing and collaboration by leveraging your existing Internet connections. ZoomCall works over any broadband or high-speed network from anywhere to anywhere on the globe. All you need to do is to download and install the client software, attach an off-the-shelf PC camera and your computer turns into a business-quality Video conferencing station.

 Why do I need ZoomCall?

When it comes to the business world, nothing can substitute a face-to-face meeting. The problem is time and money. ZoomCall solves this problem by allowing you to save both and still maintain a face-to-face experience. In addition, ZoomCall solves the typical complexities of a Video conference, letting you to initiate or receive a video call anywhere in the world in a matter of seconds by simply connecting your PC to the Internet.  Why do I need to register with ZoomCall?

ZoomCall uses e-mail addresses to connect users as well as to communicate with our users for notification and issue resolution. Thus, we require an accurate e-mail address for all members of the ZoomCall network to enable video calling and facilitate overall communications. Additionally, on a slightly more technical note, ZoomCall is not a Peer-to-Peer network. In fact it is a brokered network, where the ZoomCall servers enable a robust quality of service layer on top of the unpredictable Internet.

 Is my Privacy protected?

We regard our member's privacy as one of our most important values. We never SPAM our users. We protect member's information and do not disclose it to any third parties. The most current version of our Privacy Policy is always available for your review on our website and should give you confidence whenever you use ZoomCall.

Whenever we change our policy, we will give you a 30 days notice of those changes through prominent disclosures, including notification on our home page. If policy changes are substantial, we will additionally notify each of our members individually through e-mails.

 Is ZoomCall free?

Registration for ZoomCall and download of the latest ZoomCall software is always free. Being a registered member allows you to receive calls for free from other registered members. Additionally, when you first register you get a limited supply of free minutes to try ZoomCall and see why it is the best business quality Video conference service on the Internet. In order to continue placing calls you will either need to purchase minutes, subscribe to a monthly plan, or register under a corporate group account. So, go ahead, get your login, download and install the application, and see why your next call should be a ZoomCall.

 How can I call somebody over ZoomCall?

ZoomCall uses e-mail address to direct calls between registered users. Thus, ZoomCalling your friend or colleague is as easy as it gets. Simply enter an e-mail address of the person you wish to call into the Address Bar of the ZoomCall application and press the Connect button. If person you are calling is online, you will be in a conference in no time. Adding users to your Address Book will allow you to see their real-time status, so that you can be sure your call will reach them at the right time.

Note that you will not be able to complete a video call to a person who has not registered with ZoomCall. However you can still invite your friends and colleagues to register by simply ZoomCalling their e-mail addresses. The system will automatically send an invitation to download ZoomCall and a special link to call you back as soon as the client is installed. Your colleague does not even need a camera. He or she can download the software and you will both be able to talk to each other, and your colleague will be able to see you. Of course, if they do happen to have a camera, you can be up and running on a video call within minutes of the invitation.

 How can I find other ZoomCall users?

All registered ZoomCall users have access to the ZoomCall Directory and are able to search other users by their first, last names and e-mail addresses. Directory search is available right from the ZoomCall application as well as from the Member's Area of the website. Please note that some ZoomCall users chose not to be listed in the Directory and their information will not be displayed in the search results. These users must be contacted directly to get their correct e-mail address.

 Do I have to be listed in the Directory?

No, you can simply set a privacy setting in your profile to keep you unlisted. It works just like the Telephone Directory and an unlisted number. So, you can still send and receive calls and your friends and colleagues can still add you to their Address Books to see your status. However, when someone searches the Directory, your name will not show up. Note, as an additional feature, if you are part of a corporate account, your account administrator can make the default setting for whether outside users can or cannot see members of your group. You can then adjust this setting for your personal profile.

 Can I use ZoomCall with my wireless network?

Absolutely. You can use ZoomCall whether you are connected to the Internet with wires or wirelessly. ZoomCall's built-in Quality of Service capability will automatically adjust for any additional jitter that may be caused by your wireless connection. If you are still not sure about your network connection, simply run the Network test under the Network Setup menu of the application, and you will see the pertinent statistics and your overall test result.

 Can I be in a conference with more than one person?

Yes, ZoomCall supports group conferencing for up to six people where all participants are able to see each other at the same time. In the Video conferencing industry this is known as a 'continuous presence conference'. Of course, the quality of each participant's picture may be slightly different depending on the network connection, PC, and the camera they are using.

 Can I ZoomCall from a Hotel?

As long as your hotel has a high speed internet service, you are ready to ZoomCall. ZoomCall does not require any special Internet connectivity typically needed to establish a Video conference like a static IP address, Virtual Private Network or change in the firewall settings. ZoomCall will automatically configure itself to enable video calls without any changes in your settings or special connectivity requirements. Thus, within minutes of arriving at your destination you can be connected to your colleagues or see and talk to your family and loved ones. Traveling will no longer be a barrier to seeing those around you at home or at work.

 What are ZoomCall Account Types?

There are three account types available for the ZoomCall service. Please note, none of the account types including your promotional minutes use Advertising or any other SPAM-based technology like Banner Ads, Popup Ads or any other form of advertising to interfere with your business video calls.  How much does it cost?

Registration for ZoomCall and download of the latest ZoomCall software is ALWAYS free. As a registered member, you can also receive calls for free from other registered members. To place calls you will either need to purchase minutes, subscribe to a monthly plan or become a member of a group account. ZoomCall pricing for placing calls depends on the type of account you have. For most basic calls your charges will be roughly the same as a long distance phone call. This is a dramatic savings over a typical business Video conferencing charges you would expect. If you are a frequent user, your savings are even greater as preferred, unlimited usage, pricing is available for Pro and Group accounts.  How can I find all of my co-workers?

If you are registered under a Group account, finding your co-workers or other group members is as simple as looking into your Address Book. When you register with your Group code, your group members are automatically loaded into your Address Book, so you have immediate access to all of your co-workers and their current status. In addition, ZoomCall integrates with your corporate directory services like LDAP and your Address Book automatically stays current with your latest corporate information.

 Can I leave ZoomCall on at work?

Absolutely. Unlike many applications on the market that enable various types of communication, ZoomCall is not a so called peer-to-peer network application. It is a brokered network where dedicated ZoomCall servers are responsible for enabling communications between users. Thus, your PC will never be used as a server or a communication point for other users communications. In short, you can feel safe that your computer and your network resources are only used by you when you are in a video call. The only other communication between your computer and the ZoomCall network is to indicate a status change of your PC such as on-line, off-line, busy, etc. Since the ZoomCall network is not a peer-to-peer network, it does not rely on propagation of status from one computer to the other. To you, it means that you always get the latest and most accurate information about the contacts in your Address Book.

 Can I use File Transfer during my Video conference?

Yes, the ZoomCall quality-of-service layer ensures that your video call quality is as good as possible. Other services within ZoomCall like chat and file transfer are intelligently inserted throughout your video call to minimize the negative impact on your overall quality. The result is your ability to maintain a business quality Video conference while transferring files or chatting as your needs arise.

 Can I use the Internet while I am in a conference?

Yes, the ZoomCall quality-of-service layer ensures that your video call quality is as good as possible. Although we do not control other applications which you may be using, like a Web browser, the video call quality always tries to achieve the optimum result without suppressing other application. Thus, if you are doing significant file downloads or running some complicated calculations, those activities may have an adverse impact on the quality of your Video conference, as network and CPU resources are being taken up by other activites. Rest assured, though, that the dynamic nature of ZoomCall will continuously monitor and improve the quality as resources get freed up from other tasks.

 Can I use ZoomCall outside of the USA?

Yes, ZoomCall is a global service that can be used from anywhere in the world with an Internet connection. Just like a cell phone, we have regional servers that enable connectivity yet they are all interconnected giving you the ability to call anyone in the world. There are NO roaming charges when you travel outside of your region; still, here are some simple guidelines to assist you to determine which server you should select for registration:

  • Pick the server location where you reside. This will give you the best quality Video conferences automatically for the majority of your video calls.
  • If you do not reside in any of the regions currently listed, pick the server region where most of your calls will go. This will enable you to search the Directory of that server to find new users. NOTE: You can always call users registered on different servers but you will need to know their "registered" e-mail address, so that you can make the appropriate call. You can also keep track of users registered on different servers by adding them to your Address Book.
  • If you travel between the listed regions, then you should pick the regions where most of your contacts reside.
  • If your situation changes and you would like to convert your account to a different region please contact support@zoomcall.com and we will be more than happy to help you with your request.

 Are there long distance charges?

Since ZoomCall is an Internet-based Video conferencing service, there are NO any additional charges for ZoomCall users outside of your own country or regional server. In fact, you connect to the Internet as you normally would and just make a ZoomCall. It does not matter where the other person is in the world, as ZoomCall finds him/her and establishes the call.

 Does ZoomCall support any other Languages?

ZoomCall currently supports English, German, French and Russian. An alternate language selection can be easily chosen by going to the Setup Languages menu within the ZoomCall application. The language selection can be done at any time and will reconfigure your application immediately without the need for restarting.

 Does ZoomCall support any other Skins?

With ZoomCall you can easily customize the look-and-feel of your application by picking one of the many skins currently available. This will ensure that your ZoomCall matches your style or your mood. An alternate skin selection can be easily chosen by going to the Setup Skins menu within the ZoomCall application. The application skin selection can be done at any time and will reconfigure your application immediately without the need for restarting.

 What do I need for a group conference?

Group Video conferences, or multi-point Video conferences, often require expensive dedicated hardware for operation. ZoomCall enables group video calls through its software which is already part of the service. This service needs to be scheduled and hosted, so that the participants know where to find the "Group Video conference room" and can enter it to join the group Video conference. Anyone can join a group conference by dialing the room; however, in order to host a group conference you will need to upgrade your account from Standard to either Pro or Group. If you have a Standard account, you can demo a group video call with your colleagues by logging into the demo multi-conference. Once you have upgraded your account, you will be able to setup your own rooms and schedule your own group video calls.
